Special Projects in 2014

New linen has been obtained for the altars at La Chapelle and Bocé, and we have also acquired some splendid altar frontals and lectern falls; a few produced by the artistic Slabbinck manufacturers of Belgium.  These adornments provide the churches with an atmosphere of devotion, besides declaring beautifully the colours and themes of the various liturgical seasons.  Thanks to Avis Hughes and Pamela Johnson who help us with their sewing skills—much appreciated.

The power of prayer

A very important aspect of our work of worship is prayer: offered for the Church and the world and those in need.  We have a special devotion in praying for our sick.  There is a great deal of illness among our membership at the present time and we hold them all firmly in our prayers.   Life can be very fragile and age can begin to weary, so the support of our prayers means that we carry them into the healing and strengthening presence of Jesus. We also can offer thanksgiving for those whose health is restored or who have discovered encouragement and strength in their illness.  Please pass on any names for our prayer intentions to Fr. Kevin.

Besides our publicized Masses, the Chaplain offers Mass in the Oratory during the week on occasions.  The anniversaries of our Departed members are always commemorated at these Masses, during their anniversary month.  They are not forgotten and remain within our memory as an appreciated presence.

A DVD About The Chaplaincy…

Over the years, we have promoted our presence and work by various publicity means; including brochures, magazines and speaking engagements.  Of course, the best means of communication remains the “word of mouth” by which people are invited to share our community life.

We are exploring the possibility of having a DVD produced that gives a visual witness about the various dimensions of our Chaplaincy’s presence.  This will be an extraordinary initiative that will be paid for by our Capital Projects Fund.  Copies of the DVD will be given to our membership, and the matter will be considered at our AGM on May 18th.   The work and cost involved may prove to be prohibitive, but the initiative is worthy of exploration.  Does anyone know of an enterprise that could do this for us?   If so, please contact Fr. Kevin on :-

The Patronal Festival

June 22nd, the day of St. Thomas More, this year falls upon a Sunday, which also observes the feast of Corpus Christi.  Thomas More wrote extensively upon the theme of the Body of Christ and our Festival Mass in La Chapelle at 11 am, will celebrate these two important occasions in the life of the Chaplaincy.

Refreshments will be available after Mass.  We may also arrange to have a lunch at a local restaurant, if there is sufficient demand.  More news later…
